I know. I know. We hear this all the time. Drink more water! Did you know that you are supposed to drink half your body weight of water in ounces each day? For me, it is a LOT, and hard to do. Just one more incentive to lose this weight! I’m so glad I found the 21 Day Fix to help me lose this weight. Have I mentioned before how much I love the 21 Day Fix?!? Lol! Another incentive is you get to eat more FOOD! When you don’t waste your calories on sodas, juices, or other flavored beverages you get to use those calories instead for food. I learned this the hard way. When I was counting calories, I would sacrifice a snack or part of a meal to have a McDonald’s coke. (Which is 360 calories!) Save those beverages for special treats and drink water instead. You will be glad you did and so will your waistline.
Do you know how important water is for our bodies, not just weight loss? Water is vital for our organs to function properly. Water is needed for our blood to circulate throughout our bodies. We need water to flush out toxins and other bacteria that enter our bodies every day. Water helps improve the digestive system, and promotes regularity. Water also helps us feel full, and then we don’t eat as much. Did you know drinking a glass of water before each meal can help you eat less? Did you also know that dehydration is often mistaken for hunger? When you feel hungry, drink a glass of water, then if you still feel hungry you need food. If not, then you were just needing water. Drinking your daily requirement of water also helps you prevent water retention. I know, that sounds counterproductive, but here’s what happens. When you feed your body the water it needs, your brain sends a message to release that extra water. As long as you keep drinking the required amount each day, your body will not hold onto excess water any longer.
So you ask, how do I drink more water when I don’t really like water? There are so many recipes out there that can make your water taste more appetizing. Click here for recipes to make your water tasty. Other things you can try are adding fruits, mint leaves, or cucumbers. You could also try making fruit ice cubes to add to your water. I don’t recommend using the flavored water packets and/or drops that you can buy at the grocery store. Those have imitation sugar in them and will only trick your brain into craving more sugar. That’s the opposite of the goal intended here.
I have 2 ways that I use to help drink my water each day. One way is to use the Water Your Body app. There is a free version and a paid version. With this app, you enter your body weight, and it calculates how much water you need each day. The creator makes it fun by giving you a daily grade and monthly-average grade to motivate you. You can also see a line graph of your progress. Another way that helps me track is to label water bottles with a number and drink them in order. Each day I fill up the water bottles and try my best to finish all of them. I don’t always succeed, but it is a visual to let me know where I am with my goal during the day. Even if you never exercise and just cut out one caloric beverage a day and replace it with water, you could lose up to 15-20 pounds within a year. Wouldn’t we all love that?!?
